How to Make Chicken and Pasta Bake

This pasta bake is a real family favourite. Also pasta has a low Glycaemic Index (GI). Eating low GI foods may make you feel fuller for longer after eating, which may help you avoid snacking between meals and eat less overall.

ingredients

  • remaining chicken meat from a roast chicken carcass

  • 2 tablespoon of butter

  • 2 tablespoon of flour

  • 1 pint of milk

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 1 packet of your favourite dried pasta e.g. shells or macaroni

  • broccoli

  • handful of grated cheddar cheese

  • Start cooking the pasta according to the instructions on the packet. For the last five minutes of cooking add the broccoli.

  • Heat the milk with the bay leaf in a saucepan then keep warm.

  • Make the white sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan - add the flour and stir with a wooden spoon until it all comes together.

  • Add the milk slowly to the butter and flour mixture to form a nice smooth white sauce.

  • In a greased oven-proof bowl combine the pasta, broccoli, chicken and white sauce. 

  • Top with the grated cheese.  

  • Pop into a preheated oven (180 degrees/gas mark 4) for around 30 minutes, until it has browned and is hot and bubbling.
